Paragliding:

Due to council restriction flying at Arbroath is limited to a few named members of ESP Club i.e. it is NOT even open to all ESP club members!

This site, due to both it’s very public nature and to comply with the council rules, requires a consistently very high standard of Airmanship

  • To be added to the Council List members must first attain the 25 hours flying currency requirement (per year)
  • Then while they build their 20hrs Site Specific currency restricted to flying at the site on ‘Club Days’ with a mandatory ‘day to day’ site briefing required from Murray (Site Safety).
  • Only once the ‘named member’ has reached and maintains the site currency of 25 hrs per season may they fly the site as an individual with just a phone call to notify the site is in use being required.

History: The local Council imposed restrictions followed a serious accident in Victoria Park (not related to our club) several years ago and it is only due to the very high standards of Airmanship consistently demonstrated by the club (since the late 90’s) that limited flying at the Park was once again permitted, and this was after a year of negotiation with further demonstration of the high standards, the poor ‘press’ generated by numerous BHPA accidents over the years not helping the situation!

NOTE: ‘Free’ member 3rd party insurance from sports association like the BHPA does NOT provide suitable cover, hence all named club members MUST take hold Sports Cover Direct (or similar) personal & 3rd party insurance while they remain on the Arbroath Permitted Pilot List, details of their insurance to be held by the club.
